We’ll Regret This

Last night around 10:00 we opted to go to Waffle House for a late night snack.  Amanda posted this as her status on facebook:

Thankfully, my annual physical isn’t for another 11 months.

Translation Needed

Filed under: Marriage — Neil @ 7:00 am

Yesterday, Amanda & I had the following text message conversation:

What can we learn from this conversation?

  • Neither of us spell well when texting.  spot = spout; yeap = yep (or maybe a really excited yep)
  • Men & women communicate differently.  She asks me to pick up a “drink decanter.” I’ve never heard of a decanter & was totally unaware of the fact that we needed 1 so bad that I needed to leave work & go to Sam’s to pick 1 up.  Through discussing it w/ some other guys I reasoned that it was a jug w/ a spout.
  • Why did we need a “drink decanter?” Amanda was hosting her bunko group last night.
  • Why is a pitcher an insufficient instrument for women to use to fill their glasses w/ sweet tea.  When having some guys over I’ve never thought “boy, do I need to go buy something besides a pitcher so that we can fill our glasses appropriately.”
  • I felt vindicated when the box of the item read “drink dispenser” rather than a “drink decanter”.

It did make me consider a few things about ministry:

  • How often I use language that teens can’t understand?
  • How often do we as a church use insider language that non-believers can’t understand

I did purchase the correct jug w/ a spout (the last picture in our text conversation was me asking which 1 she wanted) & the cups of the bunko group were filled via the jug w/ a spout.

I ate w/ a group of guys at 5 Guys today & then made a visit to the Apple Store to play  w/ an iPad to research how much more effective of a youth minister I could be w/ an iPad.  I sent the following email to my bride from the iPad:

Don’t be mad, but I bought myself a little gift today.

Sent from my iPad

She replied w/:

I see the “sent from my ipad”
That is fine with me, I am meeting the jeweler this afternoon. 🙂

Why I’m not buying an iPad

  1. I’m waiting on the 2nd generation iPad.  The lack of multi-tasking, camera, & a few other capabilities in this model are a big negative to me.
  2. Amanda would kill me.  The conversation would go something like “You spent $500 on what?????.  You already have an iphone & an iMac!!!!!!!! Your such a !#@!  %#@! @%&*!#@!!!!!

My wife > Bob Villa

I returned home late last night to find that my wife had knocked out a truck load of home projects on our list while I was away w/ our youth choir.

  • 2 new shelves in our garage for yard supplies, coolers, etc
  • a new rack for hanging tools like shovels & brooms
  • a peg board in the garage for my tools
  • work bench/table in the garage
  • 3 new flowerbeds in our backyard
  • fresh pine straw in all of our flowerbeds
  • a new built in desk for our computer/home office work station
  • the yard was freshly mowed & trimmed
  • weed killer applied to the patio & other areas

All I gave her this week was a week’s worth of stories from hanging out w/ teenagers.
