Snow Day

Last night I spent several hours working on things at home (neighborhood association, budget, & sorting through some pictures).  We took this picture on the snow day we had a couple of weeks ago.

Yes, we coordinated wearing the gray t-shirts that are hanging out of our sweatshirts.

Amanda, Roscoe & Bubblewrap

I didn’t grab my video camera in time to record the best action.  By the time I hit record Roscoe was rediscovering his love for licking his paws & his bed.

Back to School

I came home this afternoon (after Run for the Sun & delivering Gatorade & popsicles to a local high school football team) to find this in my driveway.  Looks like Amanda is practicing for the new group of 1st graders that’ll enter her classroom this week.

My 6 month old nephew is keeping Amanda & I busy today.  He’s not much help in putting together a newsletter, but he’s really good at slobbering on my keyboard.

Perception

Last night our 2 year old neice came over.  Before her grandparents took her home w/ them she took a bath at our house.  A bath at our house means she gets to play/draw w/ bathtub crayons on the side of the tub.

Last night she decided to draw everyone in the family.  We all look much like stick people to her.  Everyone in the family is the same height except for me.  I’m at least 3x the height of everyone else in her eyes.

Graduation Pictures

Today, I received my masters degree from NOBTS.  Here’s the photographic evidence:

On Friday I had to have a picture taken for the NOBTS publicity office.  They wanted me to look pastoral & didn’t think my jeans & polo were the right look.  So, they gave me a “suit” for the picture.  Amanda managed to get a couple of unofficial portraits of me as well.

Friday afternoon we had graduation rehearsal for 1.5 hours.  We spent the majority of the time being lined up properly & learning how to walk.  I gave my full attention & listened to every word that was said.

My family had balcony seats for the graduation service.  They really enjoyed staring into the projector’s light (it was lighting the “confidence screen” on the back wall).

Thanks to the projector this is the picture of me walking across the stage & receiving my diploma (the $30 for the professional photographer’s attempt at the scene may have been a good deal after all).

The Weekend in Pictures

Saturday night we ate at this place in Vicksburg.  While we there 3 guys (guys in the white hats in the distance) who wished they were all this guy walked in.  It’s not a great picture, but Amanda wouldn’t let me be obvious about trying to photograph them.

After eating we made a visit to this area in search of a ferry that crosses the Yazoo to a deer camp that Amanda’s grandfather used to belong.  In the 2nd picture you’ll notice a gator that we crossed paths with.

We ate mother’s day lunch here (great fried chicken) w/ my family.  The picture is of me holding my 6 week old nephew.

After lunch we spent the rest of the afternoon doing one of Amanda’s favorite hobbies: looking @ homes.  This made up the list of homes she had on our list to tour.  The picture is of her sitting in a ridiculously expensive bath tub (of course I thought it would make a perfect container for this at a fall festival).

Weekend Reflections

  • Lots of yard work accomplished on Friday & Saturday. It’s sad how sore it made me feel.
  • Finally, got to play? the Wii Fit Amanda gave me for my birthday.
  • Really enjoying the worship services at FBCJ.
  • I introduced myself for the 2nd & 3rd time to a few teens on Sunday.  Unfortunately, I’m sure I’ll do it for the 4th time to a few of those same teens on Wednesday night.
  • Lunch with Amanda’s family for Easter lunch & my family for supper.
  • Starting to feel @ home at the new job.
  • Amanda has battled a cold/sinus infection all weekend. I finally convinced her on Sunday night to give Vick’s a shot. I had to promise not to brag if it works.
  • Excited about this week. Ready to be a part of Joy Prom & to work on SAGE. We kick off a series called 1 Month to Live this Wednesday.
  • My #1 goal for this week: to get in a better rhythm/routine @ work & home.

Tonight

Tonight is my last night to lead a youth worship service @ Parkway.  It’s been 3 amazing year’s of worshiping & teaching the teens here.

I think God gave me the words to speak tonight.  We’ll be looking at Joshua 1-3.  My 3 ideas will be:

  1. God Speaks.
  2. Follow God.
  3. Don’t forget God’s faithfulness.

I’ll tell a few stories about this couple:

Summer of 2001? How does Amanda still look the same & I look I've aged 20 years since then?

Spring Break Thoughts

Amanda & I went down to Gulf Shores for a quick getaway. Here’s what I thought about:

  • Even short trips are refreshing. My body/mind respond well to a change of pace.
  • God can speak @ anytime. Amanda drove the final stretch from Hattiesburg to Clinton. God started giving me Bible study ideas & I jotted down a rough outline for 5 series & a few ideas for 3 more.
  • How can a quick 1 hour visit to the beach lead to sand getting everywhere?
  • I missed watching the opening day of the NCAA tournament for the 1st time since ????
  • Traveling the 250 miles to Gulf Shores in the Miata was much better than my mind or legs expected. Driving it is more like driving a go kart than driving my truck.
  • Taking the Miata is a good way to limit shopping.
  • We really like The Warf & eating @ Ginny Lane
  • The beach is refreshing.
  • I don’t think I could ever live in a tourist town.  Although we almost moved here one time.
  • Why doesn’t Alabama 4 lane hwy 98 from the MS state line to Mobile?
  • Sunscreen is a must when traveling in a convertible.
  • College kids keep looking younger & younger to me.
