The best/worst ever!!!

Filed under: Sports — Neil @ 10:57 am

I’ve noticed something about myself & others lately.  We place to much value on what we’ve just experienced.    Tuesday night I was at the Kentucky vs. State game.  I was following (as in twitter  & not in a weird stalker type of way) several of the reporters that were @ the game so I could keep up w/ the stats & behind the scenes info.  One of the reporters Pat Forde posted the above comment about a shot attempt during the game.  No doubt that it wasn’t a good shot, but the worst shot selection of the year in all of college basketball? Really?  Of the thousands of games & hundred thousands?? of shots that 1 shot was the single worst shot of the year?

It’s not just famouse sports reporters who do it either.  I do it everyday.

  • Today was the worst day ever!
  • That lunch was incredible.  Best I’ve ever had.
  • Best student worship service we’ve had all year.
  • That’s the funniest joke ever!
  • Best conference I’ve ever been to.
  • That was the worst sermon I’ve ever preached (that might actually be true in regards to last night’s).

One thing that I’m working on is trying to keep the big picture in mind.  To view events/experiences from a wider perspective, to not get so caught up in the moment.

  1. That was either the best or the worst blog post I’ve seen in the last two minutes. I’m not sure.
