Student Minister’s Retreat Reflections

Filed under: Youth Ministry — Neil @ 2:00 pm

I spent the early part of this week @ Lake Tiak-O’khata for our annual Mississippi Student Minister’s Retreat.  This year we had  Phil Newberry join us.  Phil has served the past 25 years as student pastor @ Bellevue & is now a campus pastor for Bellevue.

A few thoughts that stood out to me from the retreat:

  • We want to help teens become independently dependent for their spiritual growth.
  • Only 12% of 7th graders who begin in our youth ministry will still be active as seniors.
  • Never tell a teenager something that they can discover for themselves.
  • Only 1 out of 10 who begin in ministry will retire from ministry.
  • Don’t be the enemy of the family.
