68 More Years to Go

Filed under: Personal — Neil @ 10:14 pm

On June 15th Amanda & I celebrated our 6 years of marital bliss (at least on my part, I doubt it its been as blissful for her).  I blogged about it our anniversary here.

Tonight, while WLBT told the story of a couple who celebrated their 74th anniversary w/ another wedding ceremony.  Wow!  So, i’ve marked my calendar for June 15, 2076 when we’ll do the same (I better lay off the fried chicken & not miss any more workouts).

Here’s the story form WLBT’s website:

They made a commitment to love and cherish each other all the days of their lives.

Now after 74 years Ethel and Elijah Baldwin have honored their promise and are vowing to do it all over again.

Today at the Vicksburg Convalescent Home the 97 and 95 year-olds renewed their vows in front of their family and friends. The couple met in Natchez where Elijah says it was love at first sight.

They were married in 1934 and together raised four children. Today their family has grown to 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

“It works out all right. We got together and we stayed together,” Ethel Myles Baldwin said.

“It shows through time you continue to love, up and down, you always renew, keep the relationship fresh and it never grows old,” added grandson Toney Baldwin.

The happy couple left the reception in a limo and are spending their honeymoon night at the Ameristar Casino and Hotel.
