safe & sound

Filed under: CEF Mission Trip — Neil @ 7:06 pm

We made it to CEF’s campus around 5:20 just before it started pouring cats & dogs. We unloaded, got settled & survived the rainstorm to make it to Applebees for supper.

CEF looks to very peaceful & quite, much diiferent than most of the youth camps/trips that we take.

can’t escape

we just left from eating at zaxby’s in Blytheville, Arkansas. We ran into the adult choir on their way back from st. Louis.

Busy Day

Filed under: CEF Mission Trip,Youth Ministry — Neil @ 2:51 pm

Going out of town for a week (plus Student Life Camp is the next week) has caused this week to be a pain.  Today, has looked like this:

  • Plan games & buy supplies for VBS recreation games (VBS is the week after the mission trip)
  • Write a letter to Sunday School teachers
  • Write a letter that will be mailed out the end of next week about Student Life Camp
  • Finalize a letter about the summer schedule & have it mailed out
  • Check the van & trailer for safety.  Not all the lights were working on the trailer so that meant a trip to the service station for the repairs.  Also, had to purchase new locks for the van.
  • Set up a drum set.  Tommy & the adult choir are on a choir tour, so we had to find another set of drums for Sunday (Josh Brister’s band is leading worship in the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday).  Matt, summer intern, did most of the work.  We had nothing to go by (no picture, no instructions) & neither of us know anything about anything musical.  It is set up, but not sure what it would sound like without some tweaking.
  • Launch 2 websites: Super Summer (a website for the MBCB that I developed) & a website for LAUNCH.
  • Finalized the poster for LAUNCH w/ the graphic designer.
  • Plus all the regular things that I do on Friday to get ready for Sunday.
  • I still must get packed for next week.

Waterless H2O

Filed under: Junior High Ministry,Summer — Neil @ 10:17 am

Tonight, we’ll have a waterless Jr. High H2O in the youth room. Matt, summer intern, will lead the Bible study & then we’ll spend the rest of the night playing games. Matt will also get to show me how creative he is by coming up w/ games to play to entertain jr. highers for 1 hour.

The field is going to be too wet for tonight even if it stops raining now. Ken commented that it looked like God was trying to help me out by supplying the water for tonight. He thought it was funny, I disagreed.

Too Much h2o

Tonight is the 1st night for our Jr. High H2O. We are suppose to be doing water games & have a giant Slip ‘N Slide. The forecast looks like we may have too much rain for our water games. I’m not sure what we’ll do.

Saturday Night & Sunday

Filed under: Sr. Trip 2008 — Neil @ 3:06 pm

Last night the food @ Guy Harvey’s was great but the service was beyond awful.

We then went go kart riding at the Track. Erin & Jordan rode the sky coaster- I’ll post the video later.

I went for a 4 mile jog this morning to work of last night’s meal.

We spent the morning on the beach playing in the waves.

Sandwiches in the condo again for lunch.

Matt, Jordan & I are currently on a walk on the beach. We’ve stopped to rest @ The Hangout for Cokes & chicken fingers.

Dinner tonight will be at Lulu’s.

Mr. Nice Guy

Tonight we are eating at Guy Harvey’s at The Warf in Orange Beach. I’m waiting in the gift shop with the buzzer while the rest of the group is browsing the shops at The Warf.

Starbucks Quality Control

Filed under: Sr. Trip 2008 — Neil @ 7:24 pm

This afternoon we went shopping at the outlet mall in Foley. The guys finished there shopping very quickly. In search of how to waste sometime we went to Starbucks to enjoy frapaccinos.

While there I inadvertently discovered a flaw in Starbucks coffee mug display shelves. I was discussing with Matt which drink to order when I leaned against a display shelf holding 20+ mugs. The faulty shelving system gave way and spilled its contents. It resulted in each mug shattering to its death.

The manager rewarded me buy giving our entire group free frapaccinos.
