Sportsmanship

You’ve gotta read this article.  It may be the best description of sportsmanship I’ve ever read.

Uh Oh

Filed under: Personal — Neil @ 10:17 pm

I just ate a big plate of pulled pork, baked beans, macaroni & cheese, and jalapeño cornbread from this place.  Amanda ate their earlier tonight w/ her family & got me a to go box for my supper.

Problem is I didn’t get home until 9:30 & just finished eating.  I’ve got a feeling that I’m going to have lots of weird dreams tonight.

Wednesday Reflections

It was week 3 of Untouchables.  The topic was people w/ disabilities.

Jr. High Worship Service:

  • Crowd: Average – a couple of 1st time visitors & a few more that have been coming for several weeks now
  • Music: average – music was actually really good, but all the transitions this semester (Josh then ‘Tophper & now Donnie leading worship has led to some unease by the students
  • Game: no game tonight due to the time limits created by the teaching style
  • Teaching: Above average – not about me this week for a changel; 2 students & 1 adult volunteer shared their personal stories of friends or family members w/ disabilities; I thought it was really good to get 3 personal examples on this topic

Sr. High Service:

  • Crowd: Below Average
  • Music: Average (see above)
  • Teaching: Above Average (see above)

Sr. Adults

Our Sr. Adults will be meeting in the morning to reflect on their choir tour of a few weeks ago. I just finished putting together a slide show for Gayle. Here’s a sampling of the pictures:

Tonight

Tonight is week 3 of Untouchables.  The topic is people w/ disabilities.  I’m really excited because we have 3 different people sharing their personal experience (2 teens & 1 adult).  It should be a good night.  Click here for tonight’s outline.

the basics

Filed under: Videos — Neil @ 10:04 pm

Ed Young made a great post today on his blog.  He says that we need to make sure we focus on the basics & not the tricks.  His post did make me think of this song from my youth choir days.

Here’s Ed’s video post:

my much better 1/2

Amanda seldom views this blog. She’s not into blogs like I am. However, I’ve found another Amanda who is also a youth pastor’s wife (what other profession is the wife known by her husband’s job: ex. meet Amy, she’s a chiropractor’s wife) who does blog. Reading her blog made me laugh & think of my Amanda.

Making the switch

Filed under: Media — Neil @ 1:12 pm

Since the early days of the internet I’ve been a faithful user of BibleGateway.  However, I”m making the switch to YouVersion.  I’ve been using it off & on for a few months now.  I really like it & has many more capabilities than BibleGateway.

What was the main reason that finally led me to make the switch?  This blog entry by Swerve.

A Work in Progress

landscape work in one of the parking lots

As I was leaving the office today at lunch I noticed some landscaping work going on at Parkway.  It made me think of this verse:

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. – Philipians 1:6

Most of the plans for this summer are now complete (still working on H2Os).  It’s going to be a great summer.

Here’s a look back at last summer:
